PALM BEACH OUTLETS – The opening of the new outlets mall in West Palm Beach is just around the corner with the first phase scheduled to open in February 2014. This phase consists of approximately 80 outlet stores comprising the center hub. An additional 10 “big-box” stores are scheduled for the Fall of 2014 and will be situated around the perimeter of the property. The new outlet mall is expected to add $120 million of property value to West Palm Beach’s tax rolls and possibly bring up to “$1 million in tax revenue. More than 2,000 jobs are expected to be created, amounting to $82 million in wages, according to the city. Because the original Palm Beach Mall was nearly 1.5 million square feet, city commissioners and planning board members signed off on a plan for the outlet mall to encompass about the same amount of space. Word is trickling out, despite the tight- lipped developer, that Whole Foods, Nordstrom Rack, BJ’s Restaurant, Gap outlet are among the prospective new tenants. PALM BEACH CONVENTION CENTER – The planned Hilton Hotel at the Palm Beach County Convention Center is becoming a reality. The hotel, adjacent to the Convention Center will rise 13 stories (143 feet) and will consist of two ballrooms, more than 400 hotels rooms and have a 2-story parking garage. This is according to plans submitted to the City of West Palm Beach this week. Related Cos. was selected in 2010 to build the Convention Center Hilton. If the site plans are approved by Thanksgiving, ground breaking will commence by the end of 2013 with a grand opening by the Summer of 2014. Related sees the hotel as a destination itself. It would serve as a resort and a lodging alternative for City Place or downtown as well as business meetings, weddings and other gatherings.
