Good News! The long awaited beautification of State Road A1A on Singer Island, Florida is about to become a reality. This project has been in planning for several years and is set to commence in December of 2009 dressing up the road through the heart of Singer Island with new landscaping, decorative street lights, benches and bicycle lanes. The project stretches 3.25 miles running from Broadway and US 1 to the Burnt Bridge at the southern end of John D. MacArthur Beach State Park. Construction is expected to take 18 months and should be completed by the summer of 2011. Planned improvements for this $13.5 million project include new sidewalks, bicycle lanes, palm trees, street lamps and median planters. Three crosswalks are planned – one just north of Surf Road, one just north of Sugar Sands, and the third at Ocean reef Park. Benches, trash cans and shrubs will be included along some sections of the beach road.
Although scheduled to take 18 months, this project will be a boon for Singer Island.
